Pink Martini is a musical ensemble founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1994 by pianist Thomas Lauderdale. Blending elements of classical music, pop, and jazz, the group is known for its multilingual and cosmopolitan approach. Since the beginning, Pink Martini has aimed to create a repertoire that serves as a soundtrack for imaginary films or journeys around the world. The voice of China Forbes has been one of the group’s defining features since she joined in 1995, although other vocalists have also collaborated at different stages.
With an orchestra of more than ten musicians, Pink Martini has performed songs in over 25 languages and played on stages all over the world. Their elegant and eclectic style has led them to collaborate with artists such as Rufus Wainwright and Saori Yuki, and to maintain a strong discography with albums like Sympathique, Hang on Little Tomato, and Je dis oui!.
